New {School} Year Resolutions

I am the kind of person that loves to make goals and work hard to "make it happen". So I love that Amanda at Teaching Madness is having a New {School} Year Resolutions Linky Party! If I tell you my goals then I am really going to have to stick with them! I have a whole bunch of resolutions, so I just chose 4 resolutions for this coming school year to share with you:

#1- Class Website- I currently have a class website that I use to post podcasts and movies of things that we are doing in class, tips for parents, cool websites for kids and post class newsletters on. I always start off strong, and update it frequently but as the school year goes on...well you know!!! I want to keep it updated better throughout the ENTIRE school year! If you want to check out my class website, here is the link: http://palmbeachschooltalk.com/shopej/Ms._Shopes_Class/Home.html

#2- Throw-aholic- I am so bad at throwing stuff away. I am known for saying "Oops, I threw that away!" Perhaps I could get that a bit under control! ;)

#3- Conferencing With Students- I really want to be better at having deliberate and purposeful conferences with my students during reading and writing workshops!

#4- Utilize Volunteers- I am blessed at my school to have parent involvement and support. Last year I really slacked on utilizing parents' help, and I tried to "do it all". I really want to work on being less of a control freak and letting others help!

So now that I have told you all a few of my New {School} Year Resolutions...you are responsible for helping me stick to it! :) I am counting on you!!!

On a side note, I don't know if any of you still have student loans...I do! :( I just found out about this Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program. I don't know if it will be useful for anyone else, but I sure do hope so!

Off to spend more time with my great parents! My mom's big surprise is coming in just a few days...so we have to go shopping!!!! :)

Happy Tuesday!

  1. I just found your blog through another blogger site. I think it's neat that you have a classroom website. I'm thinkgin about it, but like you said, during the year time gets away and I know I will slack in keeping up with the posts. I may have to make that a goal for the following school year.

  2. I just found your blog through the Linky Party! I am sooo glad I did! I totally have student loans that need to be paid (by someone else preferably) but I am just completing my 5th year now. I'm saving that document though! Thanks for that!
And I am with you on the class website! It just gets so hard to stay up to date! That's one of my resolutions, too.

  3. Thanks for linking up to the party! I'm really bad about using volunteers, too...I always think it's just easier to do it myself! We really should learn to delegate. :)

  5. OMG yes - CONFERENCING! I need to add that to mine...I am TERRIBLE at writing it down. I feel like I conference a million times a day, but I have no proof of it. Thanks for stopping by my blog - I am now following you too! :)

    1. Yes! You "hit the nail on the head"!!! I am looking for creative ways to document my conference (which is the hardest part for me!). If you find any tips or tricks, pass them along! :)

  7. Your resolutions sound great! I wish I could have a class website. Apparently ours have to go through our tech division and getting it setup and monitored is a big pain :( It took forever just to come get someone to put Adobe Reader on my computer lol! Thanks for dropping by my blog! I'm now your newest follower :)

  8. #2 has me rolling! I do the same thing! For me, if it looks like trash or I haven't used it lately, IT GOES! Sometimes that comes back to bite me, especially with my husband. OOPS!
